Why did I choose the name Hearts Triumphant and not Hearts Victorious or Conquering Hearts? Because… let me tell you a little about the Roman times when a conquering general would earn this public accolade called a triumph.
Colossians 2:13-15 says this: You, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, have been quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses: blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against you which was contrary to you, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross. And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” And 2 Corinthians 2:14 says, “Thanks be to God who always leads us in His triumph.”
Now, be thinking about the following info in spiritual terms of good versus evil. When a victorious general from the Roman Republic had fulfilled certain feats in battle, he was granted a triumph. Qualifications to earn it included being a magistrate cum imperio (holding supreme and independent command), winning a major land or sea battle, killing at least 5,000 of the enemy and ending the war. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Maybe you are thinking what I’m thinking, so listen to this: These actions perfectly reflect the walk of Christ Jesus, who met all these qualifications listed. He is our supreme commander as God Almighty, El Shaddai. He has won the battle over death and the Law that brings death. He has put down our enemy, the accuser of the brethren, and triumphed over him openly. No more war. We are at peace within where it counts.
Being ‘sons of God,’ we are at one with Yahweh and emanate His finished work and His very presence in us. Notice where the procession started– in the field of war, signifying for the Believer in Jesus that we already have the victory in the midst of the mess! Passing through the forum on the Via Sacra is like us moving in the midst of the Body of Christ mixed in with lost souls, to encourage them that the journey of life is sacred and they too can triumph because of what Jesus accomplished. The destination is our Kingdom relationship with Yahweh, our Father, the One True God, who qualified us for this triumph by the Blood of Jesus.
Triumph goes a step further than victory. This is a public acclamation of victories won. We’ve slain the enemy, we’ve won the battles, victory is ours, and the Father says to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” The great cloud of witnesses commends our perseverance that led to a victory lap. We can actually LIVE in this mode of triumphing over every evil that life hands us. Thus, the name Hearts Triumphant instead of anything else.
